banging tune, still play it now from time to time. This was so powerful when it came out, ripping the sound system at the raves !.Watch the Dune movie and you will see where the artwork was "borrowed" from and samples
In the early 90's there was an album side 'DJ Mix' with this and other songs. It would play about 20 or more minutes. Does anyone remember what album that was?
absolute classic track brings back great memorys one of my faves
Probably no song represents the beginning of the Rave movement here in the states as much this song and probably the 808 State tracks. An amazing flow of sounds and great samples.
Absolute Cracker..Takes Me Back..I Refer To The Spice(Original Mix With Notes)...Discovering Quality Music And Searching For More Was And Still Is A Buzz.
I heard a drum and bass remix of this song around the early 2000s I think. I have been looking for it ever since. Does anyone have any ideas?
My hero!!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT'S IT!!! Thanks so much bro! I didn't think I was ever going to find this. For 13 years I have been trying to find it. I've posted on every dnb blog I could find and nobody ever had a clue. It's things like this that make Discogs even more awesome.
Coidor this?
Lonesome Orange Kid
I lost this record a couple of years ago so I can't look at the credits/liner notes on it but I recently heard Love Action by Human League. It seems there are samples from it on Spice. Anyone else catch that?
Yup, really sounds like he's sampled the opening synth sound.
The J. Saul Kane version sounds very much like tech-step drum and bass except this is 1990 not 1995!I think this beat was used on most tracks of that era, very much ahead of its time before producers tried different non formulaic things. No surprise that this was the same producer behind you see me in 3d - bomb the bass.
The sound effect that concludes the A side is 'Sutekh Time Tunnel' from BBC Sound Effects Number 19: Doctor Who Sound Effects (1978). The innermost groove is a closed circle, so the last few seconds of the sound effect repeat until the needle is lifted from the record.
Beyond the clever samples and the nice use of them, this record is a beautiful example of how to put people in motion the electro way : the use of a breakbeat (sample?) that constantly stop and go makes anyone feeling the urge to start moving like a robots. Pure electro-house.
BomberOne: I would definitely categorize this as 'electro', but not 'electro-house' as the latter is a more recent term. Electro-house refers to 21st century productions, usually with a four-on-the-floor kick, that borrows from house and mixes it with influences from nu-nrg and electro-clash. Great record mind you
Spice (Original Mix With Notes) This track was one of the first to influence me to get into the techno music scene, I specially like the sample "the spice must flow" and your triggering effects, the track is very abstract and dark, super classic track.
With a liberal dose of dialogue from the David Lynch movie "Dune" this track kick started my interest in house music. It blew me away, and although may have dated a little listening to it today, I can still remember the moment when this came on the radio and I just stopped what I was doing, thinking "you can make music like this? what the f..." I rapidly found out alot more... It's been a long and enjoyable trip from that day in 1990 but thanks J.Saul Kane and Ian B for getting my seat on the train :-)
