A monster. One of the most amazing albums if you are interested how exciting the mid 90s were concering electronic music. Deep, imaginative music; call it Post-Detroit, Pre-IDM or whatever. I missed it first time around also because of its horrible sleeve but am really glad to have rediscovered this. Would definitely deserve a reissue.
Have to just say that Surface Bound is absolutely amazing!!!!
Yup. I wholeheartedly agree with this comment. Three more words
Seeing Sense 808 minutes of...... Stardust! Repress this LP Luke Slater! 1996I remember working in an extremely difficult and non rewarding job where I had lots of responsibility on my shoulders (or young mind) and very crap pay!...I went to work that day and just didn't feel right so just before lunch I told my supervisor that I didn't feel well and was going home for the day..But before I did that I went to my local record shop (Track Records, Chesham) to pay for the latest bag of records that were saved for me behind the counter..Among others this LP was in the bag!I rode home 3 miles on my mountain bike, knackered!Got home , went straight to my bedroom and put this LP on the turntable...I Really loved the sounds I was hearing laid there on my bed until Seeing Sense suddenly filtered up through my mind!Wow what a journey!A profound one too...It was at that point I realized I was suffering from Depression (well that's what I found out later)..And why?Due to that crap job! From then on in I took time out..I saw sense!Repress this LP Luke Slater! Repress this LP Luke Slater! Repress this LP Luke Slater! P.s. also in the bag was The Wailing Song..And drexciya- Davey Jones' Locker...
Thanks for the compliment. And yes being true is where it's at. That's why I love having the ability to write my reviews. I am definitely not a music journalist as I'm way too subjective for that haha... Keep it solid steel ;)
Beautiful story man! I have a similar tale from the same era. Gotta be true to yourself!
Still sounds amazing, this is usually the soundtrack when I'm driving.
Not much else to add to what has been written here...Quite simply stunning. I only wish that Astra-Naute-E (In The Shadow) had been included. The most haunting and beautiful track Luke ever produced IMO.
Inspireational, interesting, haunting, strange and beautiful album. Real Life Ceremony is the standout track for me.
The 4 Cornered Room is a fantastic listening cd. What I mean by that is that it's not overly serious, it can be backround music, it can be the focal point. This is a years worth of music wrapped up in one cd. You could start at any song and easily listen to that song 20 times in a row. Truly a fine piece of work here. One of the best pieces of ambient techno of all time.
enthusiastically agree!
Luke Slater's frankly astonishing debut on GPR is a consistently brilliant tour de force for IDM fans... Completely embodying GPR IDM, it sounds as fresh today as when released in 1994. Many classic tracks including a mesmerising closing tune 'Grace', 'Lost' and 'Real Life Ceremony'.... But it's hard to pick and choose, it's a masterpiece of Intelligent Techno thru and thru. There's a recent re-release from the sorely mourned GPR out now, buy it today and enjoy the golden age of IDM all over again...and wonder why it's not still here!
