Notes

This initial copy of the album have incorrectly numbered tracks on the back cover: "Shoo-Bed-Ooh" is correctly identified as track № 5, but the next track, "Push It Up", is listed as track № 7 (likely due to the intended inclusion of "The Good Life (Big City Mix)" as track № 6). This error was corrected for later printings.

Tracks 11 to 47 are silent tracks of 5 seconds each.

I personally don't think this album is worth ALL the negative hype it got. To be fair, this wasn't completely intended as a Prince album, but rather an NPG album, the difference being a slightly more mainstream-driven album (and in that regard, a less mainstream album it became). I think that, when approaching this record as an NPG release, my initial disappointment was less severe, and I slowly came to appreciate what Prince had in mind for it.Very beat-driven, few really distinct melodies along with a few slow numbers, it's a rather predictable album, with lyrical content that doesn't do much justice. But even considering, there are some solid finds for me, like Mad Sex, Freaks On This Side, and the (hidden) track Wasted Kisses. Actually, these are really the only tracks that keep me interested in Newpower Soul. Again, not nearly his best, but still worth a listen.
I agree this is not one of the worst records by Prince, but I disagree when you say it sounds different from the other Prince stuff because it oficially is an NPG release: I think it's very much in line with the Emancipation-Crystal Ball-Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic period. I think it was one of his worst period, to be honest, but Newpower Soul is better than the other ones: it has the most beautiful ballad of them all, "The One", an enjoyable duet with the great Chaka Khan and "Freaks on This Side" + "(Eye Like) Funky Music": two good funk numbers (although surely not original at all).
